The research should be within the context of energy in Zimbabwe includes the following research areas: i. Energy shortfalls/load shedding impacts and costs; ii. Transmission and Distribution losses; iii. Renewable energy and Energy Efficiency innovation; iv. Electricity infrastructure protection against vandalism and theft; v. Improved reliability in the generation, transmission and distribution; vi. Customer service improvements; vii. Energy access improvements; viii. Energy costs/energy economics; ix. Energy storage; x. Green hydrogen; xi. E-mobility; xii. Nuclear Energy; and xiii. Biomass energy utilization. ELIBILITY i. Funding is open, on a competitive basis, to Zimbabwean researchers in engineering, physical and social sciences, and any other academic disciplines, at local academic institutions, research institutions, or government research departments. ii. Researchers from the private sector and non-profit organizations affiliated to a Zimbabwean- approved public institute are also encouraged to apply. iii. Consortia of the above, with one institution as lead applicant assuming responsibility and accountability can also apply and may have a competitive advantage. Rationale: Both Tanzania and Zimbabwe aim to overcome challenges in their manufacturing sectors, dominated by small-scale establishments. Tanzania's Third National Five-Year Development Plan and Zimbabwe's National Development Strategy emphasize the need for sustainable industrialization and innovation to achieve economic growth and development goals by 2025 and 2030, respectively. Scope of the Call: The call is open to collaborative projects from researchers in both countries, with an emphasis on gender equality and inclusivity. Each application must have a Principal Investigator (PI) from one country and a Co-PI from the other, promoting balanced gender representation in research teams. Objectives: The initiative seeks to strengthen research capacities, improve productivity in key sectors, and enhance gender integration and private-sector partnerships. Eligibility Criteria: Prominent researchers with at least five years of PhD experience and a strong research track record from recognized institutions in Tanzania and Zimbabwe are eligible to apply. Application Requirements: Applications must be submitted in English, adhere to thematic guidelines, and include evidence of collaboration, institutional support, and plans for capacity building. Gender equality considerations are prioritised throughout the project design. Budget and Duration: Projects can last up to 36 months, with specific budget ceilings for Tanzanian (maximum 120 million TZS) and Zimbabwean (maximum USD 45,000) applicants. Funds will be disbursed in installments based on progress reports. The Researchers' Project Proposals shall be submitted for remote/ virtual reviews by experts in their fields and shall be evaluated based on the following criteria:
